Almost Home Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was formed by a group of dedicated and compassionate volunteers with many years of shelter experience. Almost Home maintains a no-kill policy towards animals and treats families that come to us with respect.

Our goal is to find each family a dog or cat that makes their home complete. We also help families to keep the pets they currently have. Our mission at Almost Home is to rescue and re-home unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats from private homes and municipal shelters, and to place them into responsible homes.

Almost Home's events and programs:

Adoption

Adoption of dogs and cats rescued from local municipal shelters, from partner shelters with high euthanasia rates across the South, and rehoming pets displaced from their families. You can find us at Petco in Selden, NY most Saturdays and in the Petco in Patchogue, NY the last Sunday of every month.

Training Wheels™

A nationally recognized, non-judgmental, community outreach program that brings the animal shelter into the community. It focuses on treating people and pets with respect and kindness by sharing advice and information in a compassionate way. Offering spay/neuter servives, where it would otherwise be inaccessible, with all pit bulls being spayed/neutered at no charge.

The program was founded by Sue Sternberg,a leading shelter advocate and a well known animal behaviorist. Our volunteers were trained and have earned the proper certification to run this program, as they successfully managed it at another shelter.

With your help, we can continue reaching out to our community. Please visit our "ways to donate" page to learn how you can help.
