Where should my pet sleep?
Dogs should live indoors as part of the family – they are pack animals. Isolating an animal outside is one of the cruelest things you can do.
What should I know about crate training?
All of our dogs and puppies have been crate-trained. Crating a dog is not cruel. It is a matter of safety for the dog and gives him/her a sense of security. Whether just leaving the room for a “few minutes”, which sometimes leads to a longer period of time, or leaving the house for a few hours, the animal is safer in the crate where he cannot get into trouble chewing furniture, electrical wires or have access to harmful chemicals. Leave the crate open during the time you are present, and you will find the animal will often take naps there or enjoy his/her treats in the crate.
How can I provide the best environment for my pet?
Once you’ve chosen the appropriate breed for your family, you need to keep the following in mind: EXERCISE, STRUCTURE, CONSISTENCY, AND SOCIALIZATION. Puppies and adult dogs need exercise several times a day. This activity can go hand-in-hand with socialization. Taking the dog to a dog park under your supervision is a great way to socialize the animal. Exposing the pet to all kinds of experiences, even a short car ride, a walk in the woods or along a beach, can accustom the pet to interacting sociably with children, other adults, cats, wildlife, and create a bond between the two of you. During the exercise activity, reinforce discipline (staying at your side, sitting, obedience commands, etc.). The key to success is consistency. Be consistent in rewarding the positive traits you want the dog to exhibit. It is recommended that you and the family enroll the puppy or adult dog in obedience classes. You all will learn fast, effective methods of obedience training that will prove to be fun and rewarding for all.
