A controversial law banning certain pets, including pit bulls and rottweilers, has been repealed in Rockville Centre.

The community voted last night to reverse a ban that targeted certain dog breeds enacted after a person was attacked by a Pit Bull in an area pet store.

The Rockville Centre Board of Trustees passed the law last month, but had not yet implemented it.

Village trustees said certain breeds of dogs can pose too much of a menace to the community.

But animal rights advocates told NBCNewYork that the law is discrimination against dogs — which is prohibited by state law.

“I think it’s a bad idea to ban any breed,” said Diane Conyers from Queens, who traveled to Rockville Centre to make her case that animals should not be banned in the Nassau County village. “There’s a lot of folks that have very good, well behaved pitbulls and rotweillers.”

Rockville Centre Mayor Mary Bossart said even though she voted for the original law, would vote to repeal it.

“I am aware, as I know my colleagues are, that we are sworn to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the state of New York,” said Bossart.
